Description

Tuber melanosporum, also called in vernacular French Black Truffle or Perigord Black Truffle or Perigord truffle, is an excellent edible mushroom species of the Tuberaceae family belonging to the ascomycete class. This mushroom is hypogeous and lives in symbiosis with trees (oak, hazel, pine, linden). It is therefore mycorrhizal, which means that in order to grow it needs a host tree, it is also saprophyte, since it feeds on organic matter of plants in decomposition.
