Aloe vera juice, a refreshing drink for medical use

Aloe vera is a plant type with several medicinal and nutritional uses. The plant has green leaves filled with frost. Many people use the gel to treat burns and wounds. It is also available in juice.

Aloe vera juice is a popular choice in many health food cafés and health food stores.

In this article, discover the potential benefits of consuming aloe vera juice:

1- Treat constipation:

People suffering from periodic constipation can use aloe vera juice as a natural laxative.

The outer part of the plant contains compounds called anthraquinones, which have a laxative effect.

If a person is trying aloe vera juice for the first time, they may want to start with a small serving. One serving is usually 1 cup or 8 ounces of juice.

People who are frequently constipated should consult a doctor for appropriate laxatives for long-term use.

2- Provide vitamin C:

About 8 ounces of fortified aloe vera juice contains 9.1 grams of vitamin C. This vitamin is essential to a person's overall health because it is a natural antioxidant that helps fight inflammation.

Vitamin C has a number of specific benefits, ranging from reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease to improving the functioning of the immune system. Getting enough vitamin C also improves the body's ability to absorb iron from herbal foods.

While vitamin is naturally present in foods such as oranges, green peppers, broccoli, grapefruit and tomato juice, fortified aloe vera juice is another excellent source.

3- Stay hydrated:

Drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day can help a person stay hydrated and aloe vera juice can be a low-calorie alternative to sweet drinks and fruit juices. An 8 oz glass of aloe vera juice contains only 36 calories.

However, it is essential to check the labelling for added sugar and other ingredients. These can increase the amount of calories, sugar and carbohydrates in the juice.

The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends limiting the amount of sugar added to a maximum of 24 grams, which is 6 teaspoons per day for women and 36 g, or 9 teaspoons per day for men.

4- Reduce inflammation of the gums:

A small study found that the use of an aloe vera juice mouthwash reduces gum inflammation in people recently treated to remove plaque.

In the study, 15 participants used an aloe vera juice mouthwash and 15 did not use any.

At the conclusion of the study, those who had used the mouthwash reported less inflammation of the gums.

The researchers proposed that the antimicrobial and antibacterial properties of aloe vera contribute to the results.

5- Blood glucose control:

According to a 2016 meta-analysis published in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics, aloe vera may have a "potential advantage" in blood glucose control in people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

The analysis included studies involving 470 participants. They had ingested various aloe vera preparations, including juice and powders.

The researchers found that supplementation with aloe vera juice improved fasting blood glucose levels among participants.

However, they pointed out that further studies would be needed to conclusively establish the effects of aloe vera juice on diabetes.

6- Prevent stomach ulcers:

According to a 2014 study, aloe vera juice may have additional digestive benefits, such as reducing the incidence of stomach ulcers and improving digestion.

The many anti-inflammatory compounds found in aloe vera juice, such as vitamin C, can contribute to these digestive effects.
